Custom Garments
All garments are made to measure from a pattern built from your own measurements. Because custom pieces are built to your individual measurements and specifications, they are non-refundable once production has begun. We measure and fit carefully to ensure you are satisfied before sign-off.
Deposits & Payment
Payment in full at order is preferred. A 50% deposit is accepted to begin production, and the remaining balance is due at the final fitting. American Made orders follow the payment terms below. We accept cash, personal checks and all major credit cards (processed via Square).
Order Changes
Changes requested within 24 hours of your order being placed are accommodated at no extra charge. After that window, changes depend on where your garment is in production and are reviewed individually.
American Made
American Made garments are cut and sewn in Rochester, New York, in the cloth you choose, and are available as suits, jackets and sport coats, trousers, waistcoats, tuxedos and overcoats. A first-fit garment is part of every American Made order. Payment is half at order with the balance due when your garment arrives, or the full amount at order. Your payment becomes non-refundable once your cloth is cut, because a cut garment is made for one person. Changes after ordering and before cutting may cost extra, and I will tell you before they do. American Made garments are made to your measurements within normal manufacturing tolerances, are not available as rush orders, and are not eligible for offers or packages. Adjustments at the final fitting are included, and one complimentary round of adjustments is included within 30 days of delivery. A defect in workmanship is returned to the workshop to be corrected.
Alterations
We no longer offer alterations on garments made elsewhere. If a garment we made requires adjustment at the final fitting, it is handled personally and at no charge. After delivery, one round of complimentary adjustments is included for jacket waist, sleeve length, trouser length, and trouser waist and seat: within 30 days of delivery for made to measure garments, within 30 days for American Made garments, and within 90 days of delivery for handmade to measure garments. For jeans, the complimentary round covers hems and waist only. Any other alteration, any alteration after those windows, and any alteration needed because your weight has changed by more than 5 lbs since you were measured is a paid service, quoted before any work begins. See our alteration price list.
The Fit Promise
Every garment I make for you carries this promise: made to measure, handmade to measure and American Made. If, after your final fitting, the fit cannot be corrected with an alteration, I will remake the garment once at no charge, on the terms below.
When to tell me. Raise any fit concern at your final fitting, before the garment is worn out of the studio, and no later than 30 days after delivery. Report a defect in the cloth, lining or finishing (a flaw, a stain or damage) at your final fitting or within 72 hours of delivery. A garment that has been worn out, washed, dry cleaned or altered by anyone else is not covered.
What counts as a fit problem. Garments are made within manufacturing tolerance: up to about 1.5 cm (5/8 inch) on a single measurement for made to measure and handmade garments, and up to about 2% for American Made. I compare the finished garment with the measurements recorded at your order, not with your body on a later day. A measurement within tolerance is not a defect. The promise applies only while your weight is within 5 lbs of when you were measured.
How a remake works. A remake uses the same measurements, with only the measurement that was wrong corrected. It cannot include other changes. For American Made, once you approve your first-fit garment the pattern is set, and later changes of preference are not covered. A remake is made once, starts the production time again and is not a rush. I cannot promise it will be ready for a particular event date.
What the promise does not cover. Damage, stains and wear; alterations by anyone else; changes of style, cloth or preference; measurements you took yourself; and changes you ask for after you have approved the fit.
Refunds. Every garment is made for one person, so the remedy under this promise is a correction or one remake, never a refund. My responsibility for the fit of a garment is limited to that remedy and never exceeds the price you paid for the garment. It does not include costs for events, travel, rentals, replacement clothing or any other indirect loss.
